Getting our Money and Staying Alive to Spend it

To my hustling brother and sisters,

While society may not think that what you do is an essential job, I know hustling, putting food on the table, and taking care of your loved ones is just as essential as a doctor.  We just go about providing in a different way. You know, African Americans are less than13 percent of the population in America, but right now because of this vicious virus we are 33 percent of the people dying.  They say, it’s because we have diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. But I say, it’s because of our essential jobs: bus driving, janitor, grocery store clerk. That is everyday contact with people.

To my hustlers, I know they don’t recognize hustling and getting money has an essential job.  But it is my hope you find a better way to do what you need to do. We don’t need to be in the gambling shacks next to one another betting the dice don’t make 10. We don’t need to do hand-to-hand combat with people who are buying an illegal substance.  We have to figure out a better way to get our money, because all the money in the world is no good if you’re not alive to spend it.

Let’s find a better way to go about getting our money AND let’s live to spend it.  Let’s not become a statistic and not be one of the 33 percent of African Americans dying in America each today. Let’s put our heads together and come up with a better solution.

Hat Tip,

Geechie Dan
